In the 1100's, Zen Buddhist monks would make and drink matcha green tea before they meditate. The matcha green tea would make it so that they could meditate longer, with more focus and clarity during their practice.
Matcha contains a special amino acid called l-theanine. L-theanine is responsible for the focused and calming effect that you get after drinking matcha.
